Before we dive in—some quick language tips to help you follow along smoothly:
Idioms
擦肩而过(cā jiān ér guò)
Literally "to brush past someone's shoulder." It describes a near-miss encounter, like two people almost meeting but not connecting, or missing an opportunity by a hair's breadth.
拐弯抹角(guǎi wān mò jiǎo)
Literally "to turn corners and scrape edges." It means speaking or acting indirectly—beating around the bush instead of being straightforward.
自由自在(zì yóu zì zài)
"Free and at ease." It describes a carefree, unrestrained state—like wandering without worries or living on your own terms.
天马行空(tiān mǎ xíng kōng)
Literally "a heavenly horse soaring across the sky." It describes wildly imaginative ideas, creativity without limits, or thoughts that are fantastical and unrestrained.

Adjectives
描述(miáoshù)
To describe or depict something in detail.
幽默(yōumò)
Humorous or witty. Describes someone or something that's funny in a clever way.
靠谱(kàopǔ)
Reliable, trustworthy. Like a person who keeps promises or a plan that's solid.
真实(zhēnshí)
Real, genuine. Can describe facts, emotions, or people who are authentic.
讲段子(jiǎng duànzi)
To tell a joke.
搞笑的段子(gǎoxiào de duànzi)
A hilarious joke or meme-like story meant to make people laugh.
笑到肚子疼(xiào dào dùzi téng)
Laugh until your stomach hurts.
Grammar Patterns
有的…有的…(yǒu de… yǒu de…)
"Some… others…" Used to list different actions/opinions in a group.
Example: 人的一生会遇到很多人,有的只是擦肩而过,有的却成为你生命的一部分。 (In life, you'll meet many people—some just brush past you, while others become part of your story.)
当…(dāng…)
"When…" or "While…" Introduces a time or situation.
Example: 当你听到"最好的朋友"这个词,你会想到谁呢? (When you hear the words "best friend," who comes to mind?)
说到…(shuō dào…)
"Speaking of…" or "When it comes to…" Transitions to a related topic.
Example: 说到最好的朋友… (Speaking of best friends…)
无论是…还是…(wúlùn shì… háishì…)
"Whether… or…" Emphasizes inclusivity.
Example: 无论是我们定下的计划,还是突然冒出来的想法,她总是第一个行动起来的人。 (Whether it's a plan we made or a sudden idea, she's always the first to take action.)
